Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical outcome when hydroxyapatite (HA) or demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) and recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) were used together. Bone graft was performed in eight patients using rhBMP-2 and HA or DDM scaffolds. Scaffolds were soaked with 0.5 mg/0.5 mL of rhBMP-2 solution for 10 minutes. Short-term clinical outcome was evaluated using periodic follow-up and radiographic examination. Favorable bony healing was obtained in all cases without any severe complications. Successful prosthetic treatment was completed without any osseointegration failure. In this case series study, rhBMP-2 combined with HA or DDM scaffolds can be used for bone graft procedures such as guided bone regeneration.
